Tinian Soldier Killed in Bahrain

Washington, D.C. (October 23, 2007) – The Department of Defense announced the death of Seaman Anamarie Sannicolas Camacho, 20, of Tinian, CNMI, who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. She died October 22 in Bahrain during a non-combat related incident. Seaman Camacho held the Master-at-Arms rating and was assigned to U.S. Naval Support Activity Bahrain.  

The remains of Seaman Camacho arrived at Tinian International Airport on November 1 to a brief homecoming ceremony attended by her family, Tinian Mayor Jose San Nicolas, and a delegation composed of Senate President Joseph Mendiola, Senator Jude Hofschneider, and Representative Edward Aldan.

Adm. William French flew to Guam to present the American flag to the family. Camacho was provided full military honors.

Seaman Camacho is the 7th CNMI native (see all) to die in the War on Terror.  The Department of the Interior’s Office of Insular Affairs remembers and honors the brave sons and daughters of the insular areas who offer up the ultimate sacrifice in the War on Terror.  The Office of Insular Affairs also recognizes that hundreds of sons and daughters of the Insular Areas currently serve in the War on Terror in all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces.
