The seven insular areas under OIA jurisdiction, combined, have thousands of sons and daughters who have served or are currently serving in all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. The death of U.S. Army Sergeant Raymond Sasa Sevaaetasi brings the number of deaths in the War on Terror from American Samoa to twelve. |
As reported by the Department of Defense, U.S. Sergeant Raymond Sasa Sevaaetasi, 29, of American Samoa, died April 11, 2007, in Baghdad, Iraq. An improvised explosive device (IED) exploded near his vehicle during combat operations. Sergeant Sevaaetasi had been in the U.S. Army for over nine years and was assigned to the 15th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas. Sergeant Sevaaetasi is survived by his parents, wife Maugaosaa “Angel” and two children, Nakaysaia and Talimaitalosaga Tualeata.
