Alfred Wilson, an employee in the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Education and Human Resources Directorate, has been recognized by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) as a HealthierFeds Leader for his passion for health and fitness, extensive volunteer work in the NSF Fitness Facility, dedication to promoting employees' health improvement and his notable contribution to creating a healthier workplace.

In spotlighting Wilson, OPM recognized that Wilson's leadership led to increased use of the NSF Fitness Facility and heightened awareness of the importance of healthy behaviors by NSF employees.

Wilson serves as committee chair for NSF's Fitness Facility. In this capacity, Wilson's efforts led to new exercise equipment for the facililty. He also created the NSF Fitness Facility logo and Web site. In addition, Wilson instructs fellow NSF employees on proper equipment use and arranges and leads fitness seminars, workshops and classes.

OPM also recognized Wilson's contributions as chair of the NSF Health Expo Committee, point-of-contact for NSF participation in the 2004 HealthierFeds Physical Activity Challenge, and coordinator of the 2006 NSF Capital Challenge Team Race.

Wilson established a unique program for NSF, the Fitness Team Competition, a 6-week program that teams employees with one another to meet measured fitness goals.

OPM's HealthierFeds Initiative provides information and education to federal employees and retirees about healthy living, greater individual responsibility for personal health and best-treatment strategies.
