This project is not on National Forest System lands, however the Forest Service proposes to grant funds provided by the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self Determination Act to Klamath Basin Ecosystem Foundation for the work. Since Federal funds are involved, NEPA compliance is necessary. The decision on this project is not subject to appeal because it does not involve implementing land and resource management plans. The objective of this project is to restore the form and function of the riverine channel, riparian habitat, and associated floodplain wetlands to Copperfield Draw. The goals of this project are to reduce streambank erosion, reduce inputs of associated nutrients, reduce water temperatures, raise the local water table, increase floodplain wetland functions (i.e., water storage, nutrient uptake), increase seasonal baseflows to attain perennial stream flow, restore riverine habitat for fish (eg., spawning habitat for shortnose and Lost River suckers, and redband Trout), restore riparian and wetland habitat for neotropical migrants, bald eagle, osprey, white pelican, waterfowl and amphibians.
