  Alaska Fisheries Science Center Resource Guide
Volunteers from the Alaska Fisheries Science Center and National Marine Fisheries Service Northwest Regional Office created and compiled educational materials for use in the classroom for students K-12. The topics includes a Science Resource Guide with 48 marine fisheries and resources worksheets, outlines and answer sheets which can be photocopied.

  Auke Bay Laboratory Sea Week
Alaska Sea week is a K-6 marine and wetland curriculum that was developed in the Juneau School district in the mid 1970?s. The program began as a volunteer effort among parents in Juneau and was further developed through Alaska Sea Grant funding. Grade appropriate curriculum guidelines and materials (slides, worksheets, games and other teaching tools) are used in the classroom and the material is enhanced by visiting local beaches, wetlands and facilities associated with marine research or education.

  EPA Environmental Education Center
The Environmental Protection Agency education resources center provides background information, curriculum resources, information about community service projects, workshops and conferences, etc.

  EPA Student Center
The Environmental Protection Agency's student center web site is where middle and high school students can explore a wide range of environmental issues. Activities and ideas for school projects and how to get involved are available.

  FishBase
FishBase provides detailed information on over 25,000 species of fish searchable by common name, scientific name, family, country, ecosystem, topic, etc. Pictures, other site links and information resources are also provided.

  National Marine Educators Association
The National Marine Educators Association (NMEA) brings together those interested in the study and enjoyment of the world of water--both fresh and salt. NMEA provides a valuable focus for marine and aquatic studies world-wide. We include professionals in:

  NOAA Education Resources
NOAA's many educational activities are distributed across the agency. This site has been designed to help students, teachers, librarians and the general public access the many educational activities, publications and booklets that have been produced.

  NOAA Fisheries Kids Corner
This site has a guessing game, puzzles and a coloring page and links to other educational sites.

  NOAA Fisheries Shark Web Site
NOAA's shark web site has general information on sharks as well as on conservation and recovery of shark populations. Fact sheet topics include shark management, tiger sharks, white sharks, blacktip sharks, bull sharks, most commonly encountered sharks, reducing risk of shark attack, etc. Links to other web sites with information on sharks are also provided.

  NOAA Photo Library
The NOAA Photo Library has been built to capture the work, observations and studies that are carried on by the scientists, engineers, commissioned officers and administrative personnel that make up this complex and scientifically diverse agency. Over 16,000 images have been digitized and reside in the online NOAA Photo Library.

  NOAA's International Year of the Ocean
This site has a Kids' & Teachers' Corner where you can find activities, fact sheets and links to other sites.

  PBS Secrets of the Ocean Realm
Secrets of the Ocean Realm features information on various ocean creatures, classroom activities, quizzes, broadcast information, etc.

  The BRIDGE Ocean Sciences Teacher Resource Center
The Bridge is a growing collection of the best marine education resources available on-line. It provides educators with a convenient source of accurate and useful information on global, national, and regional marine science topics, and gives researchers a contact point for educational outreach.

  United Nations Atlas of the Oceans
The Atlas is an information system designed for use by policy makers who need to become familiar with ocean issues and by scientists, students and resource managers who need access to underlying data bases and approaches to sustainability.

  United Nations, International Year of the Ocean (1998)
In recognition of the importance of the ocean, the marine environment and its resources for life on earth and for sustainable development, the United Nations has declared 1998 as the International Year of the Ocean. The overall objective is to focus and reinforce the attention of the public, governments and decision makers at large on the importance of the oceans and the marine environment as resources for sustainable development. The site contains a Classroom section from which you can access other sites, fact sheets, exercises, lessons plans, images, etc.

  Virginia Institute of Marine Science, Marine Advisory Program
The School of Marine Science/Virginia Institute of Marine Science (SMS/VIMS), has a tripartite mission of research, education and advisory service in marine science. It is the third largest marine research, education and advisory center in the country. The role of the Marine Advisory Program (MAP) is to respond to the needs of industry and the general public, and to provide information that will increase the public's awareness of the marine environment. MAP is associated with the Sea Grant Program, a state/ federal program administered through NOAA.
