Stay Out Stay Alive

Gust Elementary School
Denver, Colorado

MSHA’s Michael Dennehy explains the duties of a special investigator to 4th graders at Gust Elementary School in Denver. Dennehy took part in a kickoff event April 12 for “Stay Out-Stay Alive.” The goal of this national public safety campaign is to educate children about the dangers of exploring mine property. Each year, dozens of people are injured or killed in recreational accidents at active and abandoned mine sites around the country. MSHA first launched its “Stay Out-Stay Alive” campaign in 1999 and today has more than 80 partners from the public and private sectors. In addition to his job as special investigator, Dennehy is the trainer for MSHA’s mine rescue team.
