Financial Aid for Nurses & Nursing Students
  Question
What financial aid is available for nurses and nursing students?
  Answer

HRSA has scholarship , loan and loan repayment programs for nursing students and nurses. Find information on all at http://www.hrsa.gov/help/healthprofessions.htm.

Scholarships
Nursing Scholarship Program for U.S. citizens or nationals enrolled or accepted for enrollment as full-time or part-time students in an accredited school of nursing in a professional program (baccalaureate, graduate, associate degree, or diploma). Pays tuition, fees, other reasonable costs and a monthly stipend in exchange for at least 2 years service at a health care facility with a critical shortage of nurses upon graduation. To apply for this scholarship, go to http://bhpr.hrsa.gov/nursing/scholarship.

Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students for full-time, financially needy students from disadvantaged backgrounds. HRSA awards funds to schools. Schools select scholarship recipients, making reasonable determinations of need, and providing scholarships that do not exceed the cost of attendance (tuition, reasonable educational expenses and reasonable living expenses). To apply for this scholarship, contact the student financial aid office at the school where you intend to apply for admission or where you are enrolled.

National Health Service Corps Scholarships for students enrolled in primary care nurse practitioner or certified nurse midwife training programs. Competitive scholarship program. Recipients serve where they are most needed upon completion of their training. For complete information, http://nhsc.bhpr.hrsa.gov/get_involved/scholarships.html

Loans
Nursing Student Loan program provides long-term, low-interest rate loans to full-time and half-time financially needy students pursuing a course of study leading to a diploma, associate, baccalaureate or graduate degree in nursing. Participating schools select loan recipients and determine the amount of assistance a student receives. To apply for this loan, contact the student financial aid office at the school where you intend to apply for admission or where you are enrolled.

Loan Repayment
Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program repays registered nurses' educational loans in exchange for service in critical shortage facilities located in areas experiencing a shortage of nurses. HRSA accepts applications annually. For complete eligibility and application information, http://bhpr.hrsa.gov/nursing/loanrepay.htm.

National Health Service Corps loan repayment for primary care nurse practitioners and certified nurse midwives who have qualifying educational loans and serve in a community of greatest need. For complete information: http://nhsc.bhpr.hrsa.gov/get_involved/lrp.html.
