About this Course Module

This presentation provides an overview of risk and resiliency factors predict the course of patient's functioning following exposure to combat. This course, in particular, focuses on the clinician's increased awareness of possible growth factors that occur in conjunction to traumatic exposure (e.g., greater appreciation, maturation) and ways to encourage growth and strength. Additionally, specific risk and resiliency factors are addressed in greater detail (i.e., social support) for the participant.

Goal: This course provides an overview of risk and resiliency factors that might influence the course of psychopathology or health following exposure to traumatic stress.

Objectives: After viewing the presentation, the participant will be able to:

  1. Describe specific pre-combat, combat, and post-combat risk factors that might increase their odds of suffering PTSD
  2. Define resilience from multiple perspectives, as well as apply a "strength" perspective to treatment interventions with combat veterans suffering from PTSD
