To protect homes, and improve the health of the forest
and wildlife habitat, we use several methods to reduce
forest vegetation (fuels), where the forest may be subject
to an intense, destructive wildland fire. These include
both mechanical
hazardous fuels treatment projects and prescribed
fire. To find out about on-going prescribed fires
or the burning of piles of thinning debris on the ARP
please call our recorded information lines at 970-498-1030/1031.
One major effort is the Front
Range Fuels Treatment Partnership (FRFTP) taking
place from Colorado Springs to Fort Collins. There are
multiple projects, including those within the FRFTP,
taking place on the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests
and Pawnee National Grassland (ARP).
The region has expanded fire assessment, suppression
and prevention programs to carry out the National Fire
Plan.
Fire prevention includes wildfire prevention, trip
planning, tips for protection your home from wildfire
and Community
Wildfire Protection Plan.
Find information on the Firewise
program and cooperative efforts though the Colorado
State Forest Service.
