December 29, 2006	October Surface Trade with Canada and Mexico Rose 4.5 Percent from October 2005 Trade using surface transportation between the United States and its North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners Canada and Mexico was 4.5 percent higher in October 2006 than in October 2005, reaching $66.8 billion, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

December 19, 2006	October 2006 Passenger Airline Employment Down 2.2 Percent from October 2005 U.S. scheduled passenger airlines employed 2.2 percent fewer workers in October 2006 than in October 2005, the smallest drop since March 2005 in full-time equivalent employee (FTE) levels for the scheduled passenger carriers from the same month of the previous year, the U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported today. FTE calculations count two part-time employees as one full-time employee.
December 18, 2006	Third-Quarter 2006 System Airline Financial Data: Passenger Airlines Report Largest Third-Quarter Profit Margin Since 2000 A group of 21 selected passenger airlines reported a system operating profit margin of 5.4 percent in the third quarter, down from the second quarter but the largest third-quarter profit margin for this group since 2000, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) of the U.S. Department of Transportation reported today in a release of preliminary data. The 21-carrier group consists of the seven largest network, low-cost and regional carriers based on operating revenue.
December 14, 2006	September 2006 Airline Traffic Data: Nine-Month System Traffic Up 0.3 Percent From 2005 U.S. airlines carried 561.9 million scheduled domestic and international passengers on their systems during the first nine months of 2006, 0.3 percent more than they did during the same period in 2005, the U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) today reported in a release of preliminary data.

November 16, 2006	August 2006 Airline Traffic Data: Southwest Tops System Carrier List for First Time Southwest Airlines carried 8.7 million total system passengers in August, more than any other U.S. carrier and the first time that Southwest has topped the list for combined domestic and international passengers, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) today reported, in a release of preliminary data. Southwest has been the number one domestic passenger carrier since May 2003.

October 25, 2006	Second-Quarter 2006 Air Travel Price Index (ATPI); Air Fare Index Reaches Highest Level in 11-Year Measurement; Top Increase in Cincinnati, Top Decrease in Kahului (Maui) The Air Travel Price Index (ATPI) rose in the second quarter of 2006 to the highest level recorded in the 11-year period measured by the index (Table 2), the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported today. The second quarter level of 120.6 was 3.1 percent higher than the previous high of 116.9 in the first quarter of 2001.

October 3, 2006	BTS Directs Pinnacle to File Monthly Flight Delay Reports in 2007 The U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) has directed Pinnacle Airlines, which operates as Northwest Airlink, to report on-time performance information in 2007 because the airlines' revenue has exceeded the required threshold for the monthly reports. BTS also removed ATA Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines from the list of airlines required to report.
