December 30, 2005 Surface Trade with Canada and Mexico Reached a Monthly Record High in October 2005
Trade using surface transportation between the United States and its North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners Canada and Mexico was 12.5 percent higher in October 2005 than in October 2004, reaching $64 billion, the highest monthly level ever recorded, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

October 17, 2005 BTS Directs Three New Airlines to File Monthly Flight Delay Reports in 2006
The U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) has directed Frontier Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and Mesa Airlines to report flight delay numbers in 2006 because the airlines' revenue has exceeded the required threshold for the monthly reports. BTS also removed St. Louis Lambert and Portland, OR International from the list of airports for which airlines are required to report flight delays.

The U.S. Senate voted unanimously last night to approve Dr. Ashok G. Kaveeshwar as the first administrator of the Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA), a newly created agency within the U.S. Department of Transportation.  Dr. Kaveeshwar was nominated to the position on May 24, 2005 by President George W. Bush.
