This booklet discusses challenges rural hospitals faced and changes that occurred between 1987–1996. It uses date from the American Hospital Association, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (formerly Health Care Financing Administration), and HRSA to highlight the accomplishments of rural hospitals as well as to guess about their future.
