"Virtual Reality" Tour of the Aspen Guard Station and Surroundings

How to Take the Virtual Tour
To take a "virtual tour" of the cabin interior, exterior, and nearby mountains, you'll need to have Windows Media Player or a similar program that will allow you to view Quick Time video. [See link to download below.] Begin tour

  • Interior Tour of the Cabin
You’ll find yourself in the front room of the cabin. Use your mouse to scroll around in all directions – left, right, up, down, and all around – to take in the combination dining room, living room, and kitchen. Click on the logbook to hear a reading by the Forest Service Program Coordinator, explaining the experience of opening the cabin to residents each spring. While you listen to the reading, you can continue to look around the room. To go out into the front yard, click on the front door.

  • Front Yard of the Cabin
In the front yard of the Aspen Guard Station, you can again use your mouse to move your view left, right, up, down, and all around. You’ll have the option of clicking on an audio excerpt of an artist's notation in the cabin's log book. You can listen to the reading while you continue to explore the aspen grove and meadow. While in the front yard, you can click on an icon, which will take you up into the mountains, or you can go back inside the cabin by clicking on the front door.

  • Up the Mountain
When you click on Up the Mountain, you’ll find yourself on top of Sharkstooth Pass, which is accessed by the Sharkstooth Trail, a short drive from the cabin. Again, use your mouse to look in all directions at the breath-taking views. While you scan the horizon, you can click, where indicated, to hear another artist's logbook entry describing his time at the cabin. If you want to return to the cabin, simply click on the little cabin icon. During the virtual-reality tour, you can exit the program at any time.

  • Transcriptions of Audio Portions of the Tour

    • "Hello, It's So Good to See You" ~ Ann Bond, San Juan National Forest
    • "Artist's Entry, Monday, Augsut 7, 1995"" ~ Ken Wright
    • "I Prefer Poetry" ~ Karla Jeanne Miller
