This year's report presents data and analysis for transportation indicators on 15 specific topics, including traffic flows, condition of the transportation system, accidents, variables influencing traveling behavior, travel times, availability of mass transit, travel costs, economics of the transportation system (e.g., productivity, financing, competitiveness), frequency of repairs, vehicle weights, and energy and environmental impacts. The report also discusses the state of transportation statistics in terms of a broadened set of transportation issues that the U.S. Congress specified in its 2005 surface transportation legislation, the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act-A Legacy for Users.
As with prior editions, this report is a companion to National Transportation Statistics, which contains a more comprehensive selection of transportation data in tabular format.
