Office Of Information & Technology (OI&T)

As directed by the Chief Information Officer (CIO), the Office of Information & Technology (OI&T) delivers available adaptable, secure and cost effective technology services to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and acts as a steward for all VA's IT assets and resources.

The eight major organizational elements that comprise the office are:

  • IT Organizational Management;
  • IT Oversight & Compliance;
  • Quality & Performance;
  • Information Protect & Risk Management;
  • IT Enterprise Strategy, Policy, Plans & Programs;
  • IT Resources Management;
  • Enterprise Development; and
  • Enterprise Operations & Infrastructure.

IT Strategic Plan

The office advises and assists the CIO on matters relating to VA-wide responsibilities and functions, including policy/budget formulation, planning, acquisition, execution, and oversight; internal and external coordination; development and analysis of Department-level program data; and assessment of Department IT requirements. OI&T's role is defined in OMB Circular A-130, which implements the Clinger-Cohen Act.

Representing the VA's IT program both internally and externally, OI&T is also responsible for the formulation of VA policies on e-Government; records management; directives management; the Freedom of Information Act; the Privacy Act, and data confidentiality.
