Fuels Management
To protect homes and improve the health of the forest,
we can use several methods to reduce thick forest vegetation
(fuels) where the forest may be subject to a destructive
wildland fire. This includes removing dead trees, thinning
of the forest so fire cannot jump as easily from tree
to tree, and prescribed burns to reduce fuels on the
floor of the forest. The National Forest is working
with Partnership
Resource Center in developing, implementing, and monitoring
Community Wildfire Protection Plans.
The Forest has expanded fire assessment, suppression,
and prevention programs to carry out the National Fire
Plan.
