Henry Moore

October 21, 2001-January 27, 2002

Overview: 94 sculptures and 71 drawings were shown in this first major United States retrospective of Henry Moore's work in 20 years. The exhibition traced the development of his art from the 1920s through the 1970s. Included were full-scale bronzes, maquettes, carvings, plasters, and drawings.

An audio tour was narrated by Earl A. Powell III. Henry Moore: A Life in Sculpture, a 25-minute film produced by the National Gallery of Art, was shown continuously in the exhibition. Documentaries about Moore were shown in the East Building Auditorium from October 2001 through January 2002.

The exhibition was organized by the Dallas Museum of Art with the collaboration of the Henry Moore Foundation. Installation in Washington was coordinated by Jeffrey Weiss, curator of modern and contemporary art at the National Gallery of Art. Initial support for the research and organization was provided by The Dallas Foundation. The exhibition at the National Gallery of Art was made possible by the Catherine B. Reynolds Foundation. The exhibition was supported by an indemnity from the Federal Council on the Arts and the Humanities. Air transportation was provided by American Airlines. The film, Henry Moore: A Life in Sculpture, was made possible by the HRH Foundation.
