Presenting 49 works by 50 contemporary
artists, this exhibition explored the range of work created by artists
at the printmaking workshop Gemini G.E.L. (Graphic Editions Limited)
during the past 35 years. Included were works by artists who have
published with Gemini since its earliest days, including Jasper Johns,
Robert Motherwell, and Frank Stella, as well as those by artists newer
to Gemini, including Frank Gehry, Allen Ginsberg, and Saul Steinberg.
The National Gallery of Art, which since 1981 has been home to the
complete archive collection of Gemini G.E.L., announced the publication
of its first online catalogue raisonné in conjunction with the
exhibition.
The exhibition was organized by the National Gallery
of Art, Washington. Charles Ritchie, assistant curator of modern prints
and drawings, National Gallery of Art, coordinated the exhibition and
catalogue.
