System Outlook
January 9 – Strong wind with gusts of up to 25 knots is forecast for the New York area, and ground delay programs are possible at LaGuardia and Newark. A couple of runway closures are scheduled at Philadelphia which may lead to departure delays. Moderate to heavy snow is forecast for Chicago, and a ground delay program is likely at O'Hare. Snow is also expected at Minneapolis-St. Paul. Fog is forecast this morning at San Diego.

First Autogiro
January 9, 1923 — An autogiro aircraft designed by Juan de la Cierva made its first flight, in Spain, with Lt. Alejandro Spencer of the Spanish army at the controls. The revolutionary new aircraft looked like an airplane but depended on an overhead rotor instead of conventional wings for lift.
