Adventure Routes - SUV and Dualsport Motorcycle Routes

 

The Forest offers some of the most scenic Dualsport motorcycle and SUV backcountry routes in the State of Washington. The routes have outstanding scenery.  

Many of these roads do not receive regular maintenance.

These routes are not for the casual visitor.  

Vehicles and operators will be put to the test.

Your ride


  • Have a reliable and well maintained vehicle.
  • A jeep, SUV, pickup or dualsport motorcycle.
  • Motorcycles must be street legal on Forest roads.
  • High clearance, heavy duty tires and shocks.

Communications

  • Cell phones may work on some mountain tops. Generally, don't count on them.
  • Tell someone where you are going (so searchers could find you).

Equipment

  • Bring along food, water, sleeping bag(s), first aid kit.
  • A bucket (a container like a cooler qualifies) and shovel are required in vehicles during fire season.  
  • A come-a-long, chains and shovel handy are good for getting out of snow drift early in summer.
  • A saw helps for fallen trees.

Navigation

  • Purchase a District or Forest map.
  • Check at each intersection where you are on the map.
  • Follow the route closely.
  • Routes may be combined for longer loops.
  • Some road signs are missing.

Hazards

  • Check on current road conditions at - current conditions.  Only the main roads are listed.
  • Trees can fall across a road at any time.
  • Some Adventure roads receive little or no maintenance.
  • Be prepared and watch out for anything. There are often deer and elk crossing the roads.   Boulders may have fallen off a hillside.   Roads may have slumps.  
  • It is hard to see oncoming vehicles around sharp corners with vegetation growing along the sides. Do not go faster than you can see to stop.  
  • Snow drifts may linger late into the summer in shady areas.

Caution Advised

  • Travelers must use the roads carefully.  
  • Travelers must realize that many of these routes receive little use, if difficulty arises; do not expect anyone to come along to help.

  • Check our website for interesting places to see.   Many of these are shown on a map at: favorite places.   They may be only a short way off the route.

The routes have their challanges

 

  • The roads endlessly twist and turn.  

  • There are easier and more direct was around the Forest .  

  • These are the out of the way routes.   Mileages are not available.
