Cracking the Maya Code

Maya World

The ancient Maya civilization of Central America left behind an intricate and mysterious hieroglyphic script, carved on monuments, painted on pottery and drawn in hand-made bark-paper books. For centuries, scholars considered it too complex ever to understand--until recently, when an ingenious series of breakthroughs finally cracked the code and unlocked the Mayas' turbulent past. Join NOVA on the trail of an ancient mystery with a modern twist, as contemporary descendents of the Maya are finally reclaiming the rich and complicated history of their ancestors. The program airs on April 8, 2008, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NOVA.
