Exploring Time
All around us, the passage of time drives a vast symphony of constant change. From an instantaneous flash of a nerve impulse to the blink of an eye or from the slow drift of the continents to the inexorable birth of galaxies, events are taking place around us with every tick of the clock. Most of these changes lie beyond our human sensibilities. Yet science opens a window on these myriad changes, illuminating the inner workings of atoms and the motions of the stars. A new series on the Science Channel, “Exploring Time,” reveals the unseen world of natural change—the multitude of fascinating events that take place beyond the reach of our senses—from billionths of seconds to billions of years.
The program uses state-of-the-art slow motion, animation, and time-lapse techniques to capture dynamic and surprising images: electrons racing inside a computer chip; the delicate flight of a hummingbird; the mystery of human aging (60 years flashing by in just 20 seconds); the collisions of continents; and the dance of galaxies. Nearly 30 leading scientists, all working in different timescales, introduce their research into the dynamics of change over time.
"Exploring Time" premieres on Sunday, May 18, 2007.
