Congresswoman Suzanne Kosmas Sworn into Office, Announces Sponsorship of Bill to Stop Congressional Pay Raise

Kosmas also Selected to Serve on the House Financial Services Committee

(Washington, DC) – Today, immediately after being sworn into office, Congresswoman Suzanne Kosmas (FL-24) announced her first legislative action for the 111th Congress – signing on as an original cosponsor of the Stop the Congressional Pay Raise Act of 2009.  This bipartisan legislation will eliminate the automatic pay raise for members of Congress scheduled to take effect in 2010.

"I made a commitment to bring our core values of integrity, accountability and responsibility back to Washington. That is why my first act as U.S. Representative is to reject a pay raise," said Congresswoman Suzanne Kosmas. "With the economy in crisis, my priority is to create jobs and help struggling families and small businesses in Florida's 24th District."

In addition to cosponsoring the Stop the Congressional Pay Raise Act, Congresswoman Kosmas was selected today to the House Committee on Financial Services.  On the Financial Services Committee, Kosmas will be at the forefront of drafting key legislation to increase oversight of Wall Street, stem the foreclosure crisis, and invest in the creation of new jobs.

"As a small business owner, I am honored by the opportunity to serve on the Financial Services Committee," said Kosmas.  "I am ready to work hard every day to get our economy back on track and to keep and create good, high-paying jobs in the 24th District."

Kosmas also hopes to be named to the Committee on Science and Technology, where she will fight for the continued funding of NASA operations.
