Smoking Policy

Memphis is All In to Go All-Out Against Smoking. That is the motto for a city-wide initiative to eliminate smoking on all hospital campuses.

Effective August 1, 2007, all smoking of any kind by patients, staff and visitors was limited to the two established smoking shelters on medical center grounds.  The facility map shows the location of these shelters.

No open air smoking is permitted anywhere on the grounds, except for these two shelters.

The Memphis VA Medical Center is joining other downtown medical centers in achieving a smoke-free campus.  Smoking remains a personal freedom.  However, as a health care institution, decisions are being made concerning the environment where smoking is permitted.
