Current Fire Situation: Red flag nighttime conditions caused the fire to spread actively during the night with occasional torching and spotting. The lines put in yesterday which would have tied the slopover in Rock Creek into the GO Road were out flanked by the down canyon fire spread. The fire moved half a mile down the Rock Creek drainage. Red flag conditions, low relative humidities, hot temperatures, and gusty northeast to southeast winds have caused moderate increase in fire spread and spotting. Good progress was made on direct control lines on the south flank. The fire made significant movement to the northwest. Steep inaccessible terrain continues to hamper containment efforts. Significant Karuk and Yurok Tribal cultural and religious sites continue to be at risk.

The main objective: Containment options are being considered for the approximate 1000 acre section of the fire south of the Go Road in the Siskiyou Wilderness.  Crews will continue to secure lines on the north east end and burn out as needed. Indirect line construction will begin on the southern area of the fire along Bean Ridge and Lonesome Ridge.

Area Closures: To protect public safety and to facilitate fire suppression efforts, closures at the Go Road north of Lonesome Ridge Road, Dillon Creek Trails, and roads 14N69, 13N35, 14N19, 14N38 are still in effect.

Health Advisories: Area residents and visitors should be aware of very smoky conditions and low visibility throughout the area. Persons with asthma or other respiratory disease should avoid strenuous outdoor exercise or activity.

Fire Information: Current information about the fire situation is available by calling (530) 493-1518.  The line is updated daily or as new information becomes available.
