End the failed War on Drugs

President-elect Obama, I ask that you suspend all sincere efforts to punish and root out drugs in this country, and instead focus on the economy. I'm not saying stop arresting drug dealers and gang members and killers; I'm saying that government money should be withheld from all programs fighting the war on drugs. It should be left to the parents to educate their children concerning drugs, and we could certainly use the money. Your Chief Performance Officer, Nancy Killefer, could see to it that no money is used for fighting the war on drugs. The truth is, for kids under 21, it is easier to get marijuana than to obtain alcohol. The War on Drugs has failed, and we've lost. We must move onwards and upwards towards fixing our economy.

True, there ideas both more fresh and more cost-efficient that would effectively curb illegal drug activity.
elementry education = DARE = FAILED
extensive punishment/nonextensive discrimination and disgression = federal prison for a CA legal medical merijuana dispensery owner = EXPENSIVE and DANGEROUS
I could go on.
the war on drugs is outdated and ill-directed at the very least
