Directions to Recreational Facilities

These directions generally reference a Ranger Station as a starting point. If you have difficulty following them, or they are inaccurate, please let us know and we will try to make corrections.

  • Basin Gulch Campground - From Harrison Gulch Ranger Station travel west on Highway 36 for 1/4 mile. Turn south at the Stuart Gap Road, (also known as the White Rock Road), 28N10 and proceed 1 mile to the campground. Basin Gulch Campground consists of 13 units with two double wide units and two vault toilet restrooms. No piped water is available.

  • Deerlick Springs campground - Travel west on Highway 36 to Harrison Gulch Rd., 1/4 mile west of the district office. This paved county road is 5 miles long and connects with Forest Road 30N44 north of Knob. Road 30N44 is only 1/10 mile in length and merges with the Forest Road 01 five miles from Deerlick Springs campground.

  • Gemmill Gulch Picnic Area - Gemmill Gulch can be reached by following Highway 36 west for 5 miles. Turn north on County Road 302, Wildwood Road. Continue 6 miles to Gemmill Gulch Picnic Area. Fire ring and picnic tables are available. A vault toilet is also located in the area. No piped water is available.

  • Tomhead Saddle campground - Exit from I-5 and go west on Highway 36. Travel 13.2 miles west on 36 to the Cannon Road. Turn left and travel approximately 23.5 miles on this gravel road (the name will change to Pettijohn Road - keep straight ahead) to the National Forest Boundary. Continue another 1.6 miles to road 27N06. Turn left and travel about 1 mile to Saddle Camp.

  • White Rock campground - Drive seven miles west of Harrison Gulch Ranger Station on Highway 36 to the Wild Mad Road (#30). Turn south and drive ten miles to the summit of Pine Root Saddle. At the saddle turn east (left) on Road 29N35 and follow approximately five miles. Turn right at the junction Road 28N19 and follow this road approximately two miles. The campground will be on the left.
