CSCOR to Sponsor U.S. HAB Symposium to Address Causes and Effects of Harmful Algae for Improved Management

The Center for Sponsored Coastal Ocean Research is sponsoring the 4th bi-annual U.S. Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) Symposium, providing a unique forum for scientists to share and identify mechanisms for minimizing the impacts of harmful algae and their toxins. The meeting will bring together leaders in the HAB community to discuss the latest in HAB research and response, with one topic area specifically focused on CSCOR-sponsored Monitoring and Event Response for Harmful Algal Blooms regional projects. Other topic areas will address research in human health, toxins and toxin detection, fisheries and food webs, emerging technologies for detection, bloom ecology and dynamics, freshwater HABs, emerging issues, human dimensions, and communication, outreach, and education. The U.S. National Office for Harmful Algal Blooms is organizing the event and is accepting abstracts until July 2, 2007. The Symposium, hosted by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, will be held October 29 - November 1, 2007 at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, MA.
