Recreational Opportunities

During the fall/winter season, many recreation facilities are closed. Please check with the Ranger District office located in the area of the forest that you wish to visit for current closures and condition information.

Shasta Lake Information - 10/01/2008

Campgrounds: The Antlers,  Bailey Cove, Lakeshore East, Lower Jones Valley, and McCloud Bridge campgrounds are open year round with services and fees. 

Shoreline Camping: Jones Valley Inlet is open with services and fees until October 31st, at which time the facility will be closed to overnight camping. Beehive and Lower Salt Creek are open with no services and no fees. Mariner's Point and Gregory Beach are closed as of September 15th.  For all of these shoreline camping areas, a valid California Campfire Permit is required during fire season.

Remotely located campgrounds: Deadlun (located at Iron Canyon Reservoir) and Madrone (located approx. 18 miles up Fenders Ferry road northeast of the Pit Arm of Shasta Lake) are open year round with no services and no fee.

Day Use Areas: Fisherman's Point, Dekkas Rock, McCloud Bridge and Shasta day use areas are open year round with no fee.  The Bailey Cove day use area is open year round with a use fee of $8.00 per day.

Visitors launching boats from the Antlers Public Boat Ramp on the Sacramento Arm of Shasta Lake. Boat Ramps: Fluctuating lake levels at Shasta Lake determine which boat ramps are currently open. The Jones Valley and Centimudi ramps are open, but with no courtesy docks. Exercise caution due to low water launching conditions.  Watch for silt and mud on ramps.  Please check with the Shasta Lake Ranger Station for current boat ramp information. Speed boat coming from the Sugarloaf Marina on the Sacramento Arm of Shasta Lake.

*Low Water Safety Restrictions - Office of the Sheriff

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office Boating Safety Unit (530-245-6075) has ordered a number of closures/operation restrictions on Shasta Lake in the interest of public safety.  Please check with their office for the latest watercraft operation restrictions.

Trails: The trails at Shasta Lake offer many opportunities for sightseeing and fishing access to the lake and because Shasta Lake's elevation is approximately 1,000 feet, the trails are open year round and generally snow free.

Chappie Shasta Off-Highway Area: Sections of this area are closed due to the Motion Fire per Forest Order 14-08-13.

Trinity and Lewiston Lakes Information

Campgrounds: Ackerman, Scott Mountain, Minersville and East Weaver campgrounds are open year round. Goldfield, Jackass Springs and Clear Creek campgrounds are also open year round but are subject to snow conditions.

Eagle Creek, Trinity River, Preacher Meadow, Clark Springs, Cooper Gulch and Horse Flat campgrounds are open until October 31st.

Group Campgrounds:  Fawn and Stoney Creek group campgrounds are open until September 30th.

Remotely located campgrounds: Big Flat, Bridge Camp and East Weaver campgrounds are open year round.  Trinity River campground is open until October 31st.

Boat Access only camping: Captain's Point, Mariner's Roost, Ridgeville and Ridgeville Island boat access only campgrounds are open year round with no fee.

Day Use Areas: The Tanbark and Pine Cove day use areas are open year round with no fee.

Boat Ramps: Fluctuating lake levels at Trinity Lake determine which boat ramps are currently open. At Lewiston Lake, the Pine Cove ramp is open year round.  Please check with the Weaverville Ranger Station for current boat ramp information.
