Plans and Projects
South Fork Fish Creek
The Ninemile Ranger District is looking at vegetation treatment opportunities to reduce crown fire potential, restore fire, and improve forest health in the South Fork of Fish Creek area. We are interested in designing a proposed action to reduce the potential impacts of wildfire by increasing the likelihood that future wildland fires would result in ground fire as opposed to crown fire. This would increase the margin for firefighter and public safety while providing for community protection.
Other potential restoration and enhancement opportunities that will be included in the design and planning of the South Fork of Fish Creek project are efforts to improve fish habitat and water quality using a variety of different treatments; trailhead enhancement at the Cache Creek and Burdette Creek trailheads; improved big game winter range and migration security; and weed treatments. Please read on to find out more about some of these activities in the following scoping information and maps and supporting examples.
