Travel Information

Lolo National Forest

The Lolo NF Visitor Map is the main source of info

rmation for location and possible restrictions on our roads. The map displays roads, individual road numbers, and whether or not there are restrictions. Forest Visitor Maps may be obtained through our "Maps & Brochures" page or our forest offices.

Occasionally, a road or an area will be temporarily closed other than designated on the Forest Visitor Map. These temporary closures are usually for public safety or due to extreme fire weather, flooding, windstorms, etc. It is best to contact the local office managing that road or area.

The front desk of each office can help you with your travel questions.

Avalanche Information

The West Central Montana Avalanche Center (link opens a new window) maintains information about snow conditions in our area. Please consult their weekly reports during the winter months.

Here is a quick link to the West Central Montana Avalanche Center's advisory map which shows SNOTEL (snowpack telemetry sites which collect weather data) sites. This information is gathered by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).

A beautiful, but deadly site.
