Polytrauma Program: In August 2005, the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC) added an extremely important and timely program to its array of available health care services, a Network Polytrauma Program.

Patient Travel: Helpful information under which transportation at Government expense may be furnished to beneficiaries traveling to or from VA facilities, or other places of examination, treatment or care.

Free Transportation to Houston VA Available for Veterans

Emergency Care in Non-VA Facilities: Congress recently provided VA with new authority to pay for emergency care in non-VA facilities for veterans enrolled in the VA health care system. The new benefit will pay for emergency care rendered for nonservice-connected conditions for enrolled veterans who have no other source of payment for the care. VA is currently processing claims for care rendered after May 29, 2000.

It contains information on benefits and programs that is accurate as of Jan.1,2002. Changes may occur during the year as a result of legislative or other requirements. The VA home page (http://www.va.gov) contains links to sections on compensation and pension benefits, health-care benefits and services, burial and memorial benefits, home loan guarantees and other information of interest to veterans and their dependents.
