cruciferous vegetable (KROO-sih-feh-rus VEJ-tuh-bul)

 A member of the family of vegetables that includes kale, collard greens, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, brussels sprouts, and turnips. These vegetables contain substances that may protect against cancer. Also called Brassica vegetable.
