Central Oregon Firewood Program
The Central Oregon Firewood Program covers personal use firewood
sales on the Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests, Crooked River
National Grassland, and the Prineville
BLM District. The program was developed as part of the Central
Oregon Initiative; it seeks to bring some consistency and coordination
to the federal firewood program in Central Oregon. The program meets
several objectives:
- coordinated cutting seasons
- one set of rules on all units
- identical signs for cutting and no-cutting areas, to avoid confusion
- one common permit, good at any Forest Service or BLM firewood
cutting area in Central Oregon
- a standard price of $10.00 per cord, with a $20.00 minimum
- expanded availability of permits through private vendors
- interagency enforcement of the eight cord-per-household limit
Call the Forest Service in early April to find out exactly when permits will be available.
