Tier 1: Core Protocol
Radiographic Studies
X-rays (non-fluoroscopic) of both knees, both hips, and right hand
- Knee - non-fluoroscopic, flexed, standing radiographs
- Hip - pelvic view
- Hand - 3rd metacarpal joint of right hand
Magnetic Resonance Studies
Conventional MRI (1.5 Tesla) both knees (60 minutes scanning time)
- Whole joint scoring system
- Cartilage volume
- Synovial fluid volume
Intervals (total of 5 scans per patient over 4 years)
Baseline, 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, and 4 years
Tier 2 (Optional/Additional Studies)
Radiographic Studies
Validation of fluoroscopic and non-fluoroscopic techniques for a single kneeMagnetic Resonance Studies
Knee
- Cartilage T2
- High-resolution 3D MRI
- Trabecular measures
- Includes X-ray and MRI every 6 months x 4 years
Hip
- Total cartilage volume and whole organ scoring
- Imaging intervals at baseline, 6 months, 1 year, 3 years, and 4 years
Tier 3 (Optional/Additional Studies)
Radiographic Studies
- Xrays of shoulder, spine and temporal mandibular joint
- Microfocal knee Xray of subarticular bone texture
- AP and oblique shoulder Xray
- AP and lateral lumbar spine Xray
