Disaster Recovery Centers Announce New Hours

SAIPAN, Northern Mariana Islands -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands have announced new hours of operation for the Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) located on the islands of Saipan, Tinian and Rota. The centers will continue to operate from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, September 11. On Sunday September 12 the centers will be open from 12 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Beginning the week of September 12 the DRCs will be open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The Governor's Authorized Representative, Vicky Villagomez stated, "The centers will continue to be staffed with representatives of federal and commonwealth agencies who will provide information, give status reports and answer questions about the assistance available to individuals, families and businesses who suffered damages from Super Typhoon Chaba" Villagomez added "If they haven't done so yet, disaster victims are urged to start the application process by calling toll-free, 1-800-621-FEMA (1-800-621-3362). Those with hearing or speech impairments may call TTY 1-800-462-7585 to apply."
On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
