BATON ROUGE, La . -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Louisiana Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness announced today the closing of Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Calcasieu Parish at the Knights of Columbus Building, 1600 Horridge St. , in Vinton , La. The center has been visited nearly 2,000 times since it opened Nov. 1, 2005.
Disaster victims still in need of assistance can visit any open DRC in the state. The other DRC in Calcasieu Parish is located at:

Individuals can begin the disaster application process by calling the toll-free registration number, 800-621-FEMA (3362 ), or 800-462-7585 for the hearing- or speech-impaired. You can also register online at www.fema.gov . (The deadline for applications for both Katrina and Rita victims has been extended to March 11, 2006.)
DRC's are open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
FEMA prepares the nation for all hazards and manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, trains first responders, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program.
