WASHINGTON – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) today announced the appointment of Douglas Hofsass as general manager, Commercial Airports Security Division, Transportation Sector Network Management. In his previous capacity, Hofsass was the federal security director at LaGuardia Airport, New York City, where he also oversaw TSA security operations at Long Island MacArthur (Islip) Airport, Westchester County Airport and the Manhattan heliports for the past two years.

In his new position, Hofsass will be responsible for building strong security networks with commercial airports nationwide. TSA's commercial airports division enhances security by working collaboratively with airport industry stakeholders to develop efficient and effective policies and programs for airports.

"Doug's significant aviation operations management, leadership and security experience is ideal to develop policies that meet the changing needs of security at our nation's commercial airports,” said John Sammon, assistant administrator, Transportation Sector Network Management.

Prior to being named federal security director at LaGuardia in January of 2006, Hofsass was TSA's senior advisor for Aviation Operations, responsible for advising the TSA leadership on nationwide field operations, headquarters initiatives and program strategies. Hofsass has been serving in aviation operations and transportation security in numerous positions and capacities for the past 14 years including 8 years with United Airlines.

Hofsass attended Harrisburg Community College, Pennsylvania State University, and University of Central Florida. He earned his degree in Liberal Communications. He is also a graduate of the Office of Personnel Management's Federal Executive Institute in Charlottesville, Va.
