Baton Rouge, LA -- Residents of Louisiana who suffered damage from Tropical Storm Allison between June 5 and 22 have only one week remaining to register for federal disaster assistance programs. The last day to register for federal disaster assistance is Friday, August 10, 2001. Those who have suffered damages and don't register during the open application period will not be eligible for programs currently available.

Anyone who has not yet registered should do so as soon as possible by calling the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) toll-free registration line at 1-800-462-9029 (TTY 1-800-462-7585). Disaster assistance specialists are available to take calls between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., CDT, seven days a week until further notice.

Homeowners, renters, farmers, agricultural producers, and business owners in designated parishes who sustained damage from Tropical Storm Allison may apply for federal assistance.

Those with questions about FEMA programs or the status of their applications may call the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-525-0321 (TTY 1-800-462-7585). Helpline specialists are available seven days a week, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., CDT, until further notice.
