SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The assistance center in Sacramento will close its doors at 6 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 28), state and federal disaster recovery officials announced today.

The Sacramento center, at 8912 Volunteer Lane, is one of 12 operating in the ten counties where individual disaster assistance is available for damage suffered in the December-January flooding in California.

People who have registered for assistance can still get answers to their questions or learn about the status of their application by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or (TTY) 1-800-462-7585 between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. The deadline to register is April 4.

“Help with questions on federal and state disaster assistance is just a phone call away,” said Tom Davies, federal coordinating officer with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). “Operators at the FEMA toll-free number are ready to help with many of the questions that were brought to us at the assistance center.”

Since the first assistance centers opened February 9, more than 1,550 homeowners, renters, and business owners have visited them. The centers were established to provide detailed program information to those who have already registered for assistance.

“Homeowners, renters and business owners interested in federal and state disaster assistance must register with FEMA by calling the toll-free numbers or online at www.fema.gov, even if they’ve already reported their losses to city or county officials, said Henry Renteria, director of the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services and state coordinating officer for the disaster recovery. “We want to make sure everyone who may be eligible for assistance registers.”

The ten counties in which federal individual assistance programs are available are Contra Costa, Del Norte, Lake, Marin, Mendocino, Napa, Sacramento, Siskiyou, Solano and Sonoma.
