Rule of Law

Current Projects: Country-Specific Projects

In addition to thematic work, the Rule of Law program is also focusing on efforts in a few specific post-conflict countries.

The program's efforts in Afghanistan highlight the linkages between state and non-state justice sectors in the areas of criminal law, property adjudication, and the empowerment of women.

Our work in Iraq focuses on assistance in the review and implementation of the new constitution, and the development of public education and discussion tools with respect to the utility of a truth and reconciliation process with the country.

In Sudan, the program has been involved with non-state justice in southern Sudan, criminal law reform, and the identification of north-south legal issues.

And, in Nepal, program staff have been working on justice and security sector reform issues. The program has been also working to support the study of the role of non-state justice systems in Liberia and has organized a special dialogue on Palestinian-Israeli legal matters.
