MOBILE, Ala. -- The Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Alabama Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) announced today the closing of the Brewton Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Escambia County on Friday, Nov. 26 at 6 p.m..

Disaster victims are encouraged to visit DRCs that remain open. Centers provide people with an opportunity to meet face-to-face with recovery specialists. Find a complete listing of open DRCs on the following page.

Disaster victims are urged to register for assistance first by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362). The TTY number is 800﷓462﷓7585 for persons who are speech- or hearing-impaired.
FEMA operates a Helpline for those who may need information or have to make a change on their application. Call the Helpline number at 800-621-FEMA (3362) or 800-462-7585 (TTY) for the speech- or hearing-impaired. The Helpline is available from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily.

March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
