HARRISBURG, Pa. -- While many state and federal offices will be closed on Thursday, November 11, for Veteran's Day, state and federal officials want to assure residents that the joint federal/state Disaster Recovery Center in Carnegie will be open.
The center has been set up to assist residents affected by the tropical storms of September. It is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, until further notice, and is located in Allegheny County at:

The Disaster Recovery Center is designed to provide more detailed program information to people who have already applied for assistance. To register, call the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) toll-free number: 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). The TTY for the speech or hearing impaired is 1-800-462-7585. Applicants can also register on-line at www.fema.gov.
On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages Citizen Corps, the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
