BORROWING
LIBRARY MATERIALS
Library materials may be checked out at the Circulation Desk on the
first floor of the Nimitz Library.
- Midshipmen. Midshipmen will be asked to provide their
alpha code when checking out library materials.
- Faculty and Staff. Since not all Circulation Department
staff will recognize faculty and staff by sight, those not in
uniform may be asked to show their USNA or military ID.
- USNA Family Members. Immediate family members of civilian
and military personnel assigned to the Annapolis Area command
will be issued a library card when they first check out material.
Either this library card or appropriate alternate ID must be
shown when checking out library materials.

RENEWING
ITEMS
Material can be renewed, in person, at the Circulation Desk, by calling the Circulation Department (410-293-6945) or by sending e-mail to the Circulation Department.
To renew items online please follow this link: View Patron Record.
Important Note:
♦ Midshipmen, who want to use the online features, must come to the circulation desk and ask for a library card.
♦ Items with current holds will not be renewed and must be returned on or before the due date.
♦ At the end of the academic year, May 15th, all material on loan must be returned to the Circulation Desk for renewal.
There are no limits on the number of times a faculty member or a midshipman can renew a book as long as there are no holds pending. Staff and other borrowers are normally limited to one renewal. If additional renewals are needed contact the Circulation Department Head.
REQUESTING
AN ITEM THAT IS CHECKED OUT / RECALLING ITEMS
Items that have been on loan for less than one week will not normally
be recalled. If the current borrower has had the item for at least
7 days Circulation staff will ask the borrower to return the item
for you to use. If these standard procedures will not meet your needs
please speak to a staff member at the Circulation Desk or contact
the Circulation
Department Head.
If the Nimitz Library catalog shows that the item you need is
checked out, you may request that it be held for you upon its return
to the Library.
To use the online catalog to request that a hold be placed on
an item:
- Open the record for the item you wish to be held.
- Click on the blue "Request" button at the top of the screen.
- Enter your name and library barcode number when prompted.
(If you do not know your barcode number, you may ask at the Circulation
Desk or call x36945.)
- Enter any special instructions in the dialogue box [optional].
- Click "Submit" to send your request.
You may also take a printout of the item record to the Circulation
Desk to place your request.
You will be notified via email when the item has been returned
to the Library. It will be held for you at the Circulation Desk
for 7 days from the date notification is sent.
