EPA Data
This page lists access points to EPA’s publicly available geospatial data. Most of the content of this page is technical and users will need desktop software such as ESRI’s ArcGIS to access it. Some of this data can also be viewed using a web-based MapViewer that is available from http://geodata.gov.

Frequently requested EPA data:-
EPA Geospatial Data Access Project
The EPA Geospatial Data Access Project provides an Internet-accessible download of files containing geospatial information on facilities and sites of environmental interest to the EPA. These files are available as shapefiles, feature services and extensible markup language (XML) files. -
Geographic Web Services
The EPA’s Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) compliant Web Map Services (WMS) and Web Feature Services (WFS) show facilities regulated by EPA as well as other related data. They are for technical users with access to desktop mapping applications such as ArcGIS. The services can be accessed by loading the URL http://geodata.epa.gov into a desktop mapping application. Visit the Help Page for detailed instruction on how to access these Web Services. You can also view these Web services from a Web-based MapViewer that is available from http://geodata.gov.
EPA Web Services include:
EPA’s Geospatial Data Catalog
A full list of EPA’s publicly available data can be accessed through the following methods:
Web Accessible Folder (WAF)
This WAF contains xml versions of all the public metadata records listed at EPA's ArcIMS Metadata Service. Select an individual record to view the complete metadata record.ArcIMS Metadata Service
This service is called ‘Public_Metadata’ and is located at http://geodata.epa.gov. Users who connect to this service are able to view EPA’s public metadata by browsing through records stored within each metadata folder. The metadata folders are organized and listed by the EPA Organizational Structure. Users can take the following steps to connect to the EPA public metadata service (Note: This method requires ESRI ArcGIS software):- Open ArcCatalog
- In the ArcCatalog Table of Contents, click on ‘GIS Servers’ to expand the list
- Click on ‘Add ArcIMS Server’
- Enter http://geodata.epa.gov in the URL of server field
- Click ‘Get List’
- You should see a number of services listed under the geodata.epa.gov entry.  Select the ‘Public_Metadata’ entry to open the public metadata service.  Within the public metadata service, you will see a number of folders.  Each folder may contain metadata records associated with that organization.  Expand the folder to view the contents.
Catalog Service for the Web (CSW)
http://geodata.epa.gov/aimscsw/csw2.0?request=GetCapabilities&version=2.0.0&service=CSW
The EPA also offers a public, Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC)-compliant Catalog Service for directly browsing and connecting to geospatial holdings.  The URL for accessing EPA’s public geospatial metadata catalog using this method is:Various tools can be used to access the service.  Users of ESRI's ArcGIS Desktop or ArcGIS Explorer may download ESRI's free "GIS Portal Extensions" tool from ESRI's web site.  When using this tool, the profile should be set to "ArcIMS 9.2 CSW 2.0.1 OGCCORE".
Other Access Points to EPA’s Geospatial Data Catalog
EPA’s publicly available data catalog can also be accessed through:
Geospatial One Stop (GOS)
Geospatial One-Stop, also known as geodata.gov, is a public gateway to federal geospatial data holdings.  GOS is updated weekly with EPA’s public metadata service.  Go to GOS and search for EPA or USEPA. You may also enter additional keywords of interest or use the advanced search to try to narrow your results.  Note: this search may not include all EPA public metadata, and it also may include records from other groups who have contributed metadata for information that came from an EPA source.  Always check the full metadata record to ensure that you are viewing information that originated at EPA.FGDC National Geospatial Data Clearinghouse
The Federal Geographic Data Committee National Geospatial Data Clearinghouse is a collection of over 250 spatial data servers that have digital geographic data primarily for use in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), image processing systems, and other modelling software.  These data collections can be searched through a single interface based on their descriptions, or "metadata."
