Dell Introduces the Inspiron Mini 10

Guest Blogger - Fred Zahradnik GPS Guide

"LAS VEGAS - After carrying a heavy, 15-inch laptop around the floor of the Consumer Electronics Show, I have to admit that just about any of the super-light and compact new "netbook" mini-laptops looked just great. But one netbook was especially notable - the new "Inspiron Mini 10" announced by Dell at the show. The Mini 10 fits neatly between the existing Dell Mini 9 and Mini 12 models, but it also brings new design features. The Mini 10 is all about using every millimeter of space. It has an "edge-to-edge" 720-pixel wide screen, and a keyboard that extends the width of the chassis (roomier than the Mini 9's). Also notable and new are built-in GPS to make best of use of mapping and nav software when you're on the road, a multi-touch touchpad, and a sleek design. No release date or price yet from Dell, but if you've been thinking of getting a netbook you may want wait until this one is on sale."

My Thoughts: The design of this particular netbook certainly has the business professional in mind. It will be interesting to see exactly what this model ends up being priced at. For businesses that are looking to update their mobile worker's laptops and go with the new netbook style the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 is definitely worth keeping an eye on when it is fully released.

I do like that computer manufacturers are looking at smaller yet equally powerful devices which are better suited to mobile professionals and their work-style. I think this year we will begin to see a larger offering of more compact yet powerful tools for the mobile workforce.

Use Your Cell Phone Wisely

Wednesday January 7, 2009
Gear Tips - How often do you get annoyed by others when they are using their cell phones? Are you perhaps guilty of the same behaviour? Avoid causing grief and perhaps even a confrontation when you are using your cell phone by remembering these easy tips.

  • Cell Phone Etiquette
Many remote workers fail to remember to use proper cell phone etiquette. Cell phones have made it possible for us to stay in touch no matter where we happen to be working. While this has great advantages for mobile professionals it can also be a means of irritating and annoying fellow mobile workers, co-workers and clients.
  • Using Your Cell Phone While in a Vehicle
The most important rule to remember is to never use a cell phone when driving. It is dangerous and puts not only yourself but everyone else on the road at risk. You need to focus on the road and not a cell phone conversation.
