Viewing the Inauguration Around the Region

The best place to watch the inauguration may be from your own couch, but there are a few places around the region that are gathering together if you'd prefer to watch the big event with others. Here are a few suggestions:
  • Old Town Alexandria will broadcast the presidential swearing-in ceremony and parade live in Market Square at the City Hall building, 300 King Street, in Old Town Alexandria from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • The City of Rockville will host a viewing of the inauguration of President Barack Obama in council chambers at City Hall, 111 Maryland Ave, Rockville. The City will televise the swearing-in ceremony, inaugural address and associated festivities from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on the television monitors and big screen. For more information, call 240-314-5000.

  • Arlington Draft House - 2903 Columbia Pike, Arlington VA (703) 486-2345. Free admission.

  • AFI Silver Theatre - The theater is showing a live feed from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tickets are SOLD OUT.

  • Politics and Prose - 5015 Connecticut Avenue, NW. (202) 364-1919. The Inauguration Party starts at 11 a.m. Free admission.

  • DAR Constitution Hall - 1776 D St. NW. 8 a.m. Free admission. Hosted by Best Buy. Redskins stadium voice Mark Kessler will emcee the event.

  • Torpedo Factory Art Center - 105 N. Union St., Old Town Alexandria. Watch the Inaugural ceremony and parade on a large screen in their main hall from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Sports Bars in DC, Maryland and Virginia - With plenty of big screen TVs, these spots are a great place to enjoy the events among a friendly crowd.

Disney On Ice Comes to Washington, DC

Disney On Ice presents a Disneyland Adventure at the Verizon Center in Washington DC from February 11-16, 2009. Join hosts Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse in an original adventure where everyone's favorite super family, the Incredibles, takes a fun-filled family vacation to Disneyland. Audiences will swing to the beat with Baloo through the Jungle Cruise, fly like a space ranger through Space Mountain with Buzz Lightyear, and spin wildly through the Mad Tea Party with Alice and the Mad Hatter.

Disney on Ice will also be at 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore February 4-8, 2009. Tickets are on sale now through Ticketmaster.com and TicketsNow.com.

Inaugural Events in Philadelphia, Wilmington, and Baltimore

As a part of the 2009 Presidential Inaugural events President-elect Obama, Vice President-elect Biden and their families will ride the train to Washington, DC and make stops in Philadelphia, Wilmington, and Baltimore on Saturday, January 17, 2009. A group of Americans from different walks of life who represent the vast diversity and varied life experiences of American citizens were invited to join them on the tour. At the Wilmington and Baltimore events, canned food drives will take place as part of Obama and Biden's national service initiative. All event attendees are being asked to bring a can of food, which will be delivered to a local food bank. Here is the schedule of events:

Philadelphia, PA

Tickets: Required and have been distributed to the public.

Wilmington, DE
Doors Open: 9:30 a.m. Event Begins: 1:00 p.m.
Location: Back of Wilmington Train Station, 100 South French Street, Wilmington, DE
Tickets: Event is open to the public

Baltimore, MD
Doors Open: 1:00 p.m. Event Begins: 4:15 p.m.
Location: War Memorial Plaza, 101 N. Gay St., Baltimore, MD
Tickets: Event is open to the public
