Fuels Management
To protect homes and improve the health of the forest,
we can use several methods to reduce thick forest vegetation
(fuels) where the forest may be subject to a destructive
wildland fire.
Read the Fuel Treatment Effectiveness Report that describes the fuel treatments that were implemented in the North Fork Shoshone River corridor and how those treatments affected management of the 2008 Gunbarrel Fire. The Report is a PDF document 2 mb in size.
National Fire Plan
The region has expanded fire assessment, suppression,
and prevention programs to carry out the National
Fire Plan.
