MORE Alumni Updates: Where Are They Now?
NIGMS has launched a new Web site that highlights successful former MARC and MBRS program participants. “Where Are They Now” features short biographical sketches of these individuals, along with photos and links to their Web sites. We will be adding additional updates from alumni of MORE programs in the months ahead, so send us your recommendations. To view the new site, visit http://publications.nigms.nih.gov/more/wherenow/.
Register Now for the MORE Grant Writing Workshop
NIGMS, in partnership with the University of Kentucky (UK), offers a workshop to assist investigators at minority-serving institutions to improve their grant writing skills. The workshop uses interactive learning modules coupled with online peer and anonymous expert reviews. As an introduction to the modules, participants must attend a 2½ day workshop at UK, after which they return to their home institutions and continue other course components with the expectation that they will generate a competitive grant proposal. The next workshop will be held May 11-13, 2009. There is no deadline to apply, but faculty are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and priority is given to those who will be submitting a proposal to NIH within 6 months of taking the workshop. The September 2008 issue of Findings magazine is available at http://publications.nigms.nih.gov/findings/. The site offers multimedia and interactive features that extend and enrich the content of the printed publication. New with this issue is an opportunity to ask the featured scientists a question related to their research via an online forum.

Join the Community for Advanced Graduate Training
NIGMS has Web-based tool to facilitate interactions between MARC U-STAR T34 programs and NIGMS T32 predoctoral training grant programs. The tool, called the Community for Advanced Graduate Training is designed to help MARC students find summer research training opportunities and potential graduate (Ph.D.-level) programs in NIGMS-sponsored T32 programs, which are at research-intensive institutions. The tool is also designed to assist T32 program directors in identifying and recruiting MARC students who may be interested in their institution’s research training programs. Electronic Grant Submission Transitioning to Adobe
NIH is in the process of transitioning electronic grant submissions to Adobe-based forms effective January 1, 2009. The new forms will be available in December. The transition schedule is available at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-08-117.html and more information about the conversion is at http://era.nih.gov/ElectronicReceipt/adobe_transition.htm. If you have any general questions about the transition to Adobe-based forms, contact your MORE Program Director.
