Disaster Aid Nears a Million Dollars in the Hands of Missouri Residents Eleven Days from Declaration

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- State, federal, local and voluntary agencies are working together to expedite assistance to families and individuals who sustained damage from the severe storms and flooding in Missouri from May 5-18.
Recovery services summary as of 7:00 a.m., Friday, June 22, 2007:
- 265 residents have applied for individual assistance through the FEMA toll free registration number 800-621-FEMA (3362), TTY: 800-462-7585, or online at www.fema.gov.
- Individual assistance may include temporary housing assistance or support to initiate repairs to homes as well as grants for other disaster related needs such as medical costs and household furnishings not covered by insurance.
- 136 of the 265 registrations have been approved for assistance.
- 93 percent of damage inspections issued have been completed.
- The majority of inspections are being completed within 1 day of registration.
- More than $730,000 has been disbursed to the victims from the Individuals and Households Program.
Residents who have already registered for assistance may call the 1-800 number to check on the progress of their application or with any questions.
